How a front door works
One endpoint per business
Every business on AI Front Door answers at its own remote MCP endpoint over Streamable HTTP. No sign-in is needed: the connector only says what the business already chose to make public.
https://frontdoor.modernmustardseed.com/b/<business-slug>/mcpEach business also gets a public profile page with schema.org structured data, an llms.txt, and a server.json template for the MCP Registry:
/b/<slug>: the public profile, in the brand of the agency that sells it/b/<slug>/llms.txt: the profile as plain text for AI crawlers/b/<slug>/server.json: a registry entry template; nothing is published to any directory from here
Add one to Claude or ChatGPT
- In Claude: Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector. In ChatGPT: Settings, Apps and connectors, developer mode, then create a connector.
- Paste the business's endpoint, for example the demo plumber:
https://frontdoor.modernmustardseed.com/b/summit-ridge-plumbing/mcp - Ask about the business in plain words: services, area, hours, a policy, or ask it to send a booking request.
The tools
| Tool | Input | Answers | Hint |
|---|---|---|---|
| about | none | What the business is, its address, phone, email, website, where it serves and what it offers. | readOnlyHint |
| services | query (optional) | The services it lists, with prices only when the business chose to show them. Checks one service when given a query. | readOnlyHint |
| service_area_check | zip or city | Whether a ZIP code or city is in the service area the business lists. | readOnlyHint |
| hours_and_availability | none | Weekly hours in the business time zone, open now, next opening, and how booking works. | readOnlyHint |
| faq | question | An answer from the business's own FAQs and policies, in its words. | readOnlyHint |
| request_booking | name, phone, need, ZIP, preferred time, consent | Sends the owner a booking request to approve. Never a confirmed appointment. | write |
| request_quote | name, phone, need, ZIP, consent | Sends the owner a quote request to approve. Never a price. | write |
The rules every answer follows
- Only the approved profile. Answers come from the profile the owner approved and from nothing else: no web search, no model filling gaps, no other business's facts.
- Unknown stays unknown. When the profile does not cover a question the tool answers exactly “I don't know, here is how to reach them.” with the phone, email and website on file.
- Prices only by choice. A service price appears only when the owner turned prices on, and then only in the owner's own words. Otherwise the tool states how the business handles pricing (on request, free estimates).
- Requests, never confirmations. request_booking and request_quote store a request and alert the owner to approve or decline it. The tool always says the request is not confirmed. Both require the person to agree to the business's consent text first, accept US and Canadian phone numbers only, and do not send the same phone's request twice within a day.
- One business per endpoint. The business is fixed by the URL. No tool takes a business id, so no input can reach another tenant.
Limits
Limits are global and per business, never per IP address, because every Claude user arrives from the same Anthropic network range. A limited call returns a normal tool result that says when to try again.
- Read tools: 900 calls an hour per business per tool, 60,000 a day per tool across all businesses.
- Requests: 40 an hour per business per tool, 2,000 a day per tool across all businesses, with intake caps checked again inside the database.
Data
Tool calls are counted per business, per tool and per day for the usage report, and logged without the question text, names or phone numbers. A booking or quote request stores what the person agreed to share (name, phone, optional email and ZIP, the need and a preferred time) for the business that received it. See the privacy policy.
For agencies
Agencies manage their clients in the console: create a business, send the owner the intake link (or import the client's website as a draft for the owner to approve), watch usage, approve or decline requests on the owner's behalf, set their own logo and color for every public profile, and export a monthly report.
